The picture of the egg – known to its army of followers as the World Record Egg – has become the most liked Instagram post of all time, with more than 27.5 million love-hearts of validation, at the time of writing.
It has far surpassed the number of people who ‘liked’ a photo posted by Kylie Jenner so much they committed to a double-tap in their droves – 18.2 million Instagram users to be precise – in order to give their seal of approval.
The 21-year-old beauty boss’ photograph was simple; a picture of her baby girl holding onto the Kardashian Klan member’s finger, shared to announce the name of her newborn.
And so in February last year 18.2 million people were quick to help welcome Stormi Webster into the world of nepotism, fame and fortune.
From one former zygote to another, Kylie’s been beaten at her own game by this egg and its loyal egg soldiers in less than a fortnight, no less.
Egg Gang’s account @world_record_egg first published the egg photo on January 4, just four days into 2019, with the mission of surpassing Jenner’s viral superstardom.
Here’s the egg-cellent offering:
In just under 10 days, by the morning of Sunday January 13, the egg had around 9 million likes; within 10 hours that number had doubled, breaking Jenner’s record.
The egg appeared to be getting around a million likes per hour once it started going mega-viral on Sunday.
Well, how’s that for completing a New Year’s resolution in break-egg speed and going down in Internet history just for egging on a viral revolution.
