The University of Ghana, Legon has brought down the Mahatma Ghandi statue on campus. A number of stakeholders of the university pushed for the removal of the statue because of what they said was Mahatma’s “racist identity”.
In 2016,an online petition was launched and it received public support with over 2000 signatures.
Earlier today December 12, 2018 the security of the school was sighted pulling down the statue right behind the Balme Library.
“We received an order from above and we can’t tell you why it is being taken down’, a University of Ghana official is reported to have told the campus radio station, Radio Universe on Wednesday morning. Source: www.graphic.com.gh
